Selecting the right stone

The Society has been in discussion with the Forestry Commission regarding a permanent marker at the site of the New Fancy colliery, where they have unearthed some very large machinery remnants.
Recently, some of the committee members clambered through a forest quarry with the kind permission of the owner, in search of a suitable rock.  Here is our Chair, Simon, taking measurements so that we could let the Deputy Gaveller know just how big we wanted this marker – quite big really!  Former Chairman Ron Beard, myself, and the dog, are seen 'helping'.
The owner has very kindly donated a stone, which is now waiting outside the quarry gates for us to get it in place at New Fancy. And the Deputy Gaveller is quite happy with the size.
Meanwhile, Keith Walker is organising a suitable plaque. Once all is done, we will be inviting everyone to a ceremony to mark the unveiling. Look out for this!
